Team Educate are seeking reliable and supportive British Sign Language (BSL) Teaching Assistants to support school pupils across Birmingham.

Do you have experience using British Sign Language (BSL) in an educational setting? Perhaps you have used BSL in your personal life and would love the opportunity to apply this expertise? Do you have a strong desire to support Deaf children in their education? If so, we’d love to hear from you!

Here at Team Educate, we’re currently in search of exceptional Teaching Assistants with the ability to use and understand British Sign Language (BSL). You should be able to use BSL to communicate with young people regarding their education and school life, and possess the ability to learn subject specific terms as you go. Although a background of working in education is advantageous, it is by no means a necessity. A caring and supportive nature, alongside the ability and drive to have an impact on pupils’ education is the most desirable trait for this role.

The Role in a Nutshell:

As a BSL Teaching Assistant, you’ll play an integral role in providing tailored support to pupils, ensuring they receive the finest education and the tools needed for personal growth. With knowledge of how best to support pupils with hearing impairments, you will use your skills in BSL to encourage collaboration and engagement in lessons. You may find yourself supporting pupils 1-to-1 in mainstream schools, or supporting small groups of pupils in schools for deaf children.

Benefits of being a BSL Teaching Assistant:

  • Immerse yourself in an enriching school environment where you can have a demonstrable impact on pupils.
  • Experience guidance and assistance from supportive professionals with first-hand experience in education.
  • Secure a longer-term position with the potential to extend into the academic year.
  • The opportunity to develop and enhance your own practice and skills through continued professional development.

The successful BSL Teaching Assistant will have:

  • A proactive attitude coupled with a genuine passion for working with children.
  • The ability to communicate effectively using British Sign language (BSL).
  • Previous hands-on experience of working with young learners with varied needs.
  • An enhanced DBS certificate registered with the online update service or a willingness to process a new one.

If you are interested in the above opportunity, or would like some more information about the role or the school, please submit your CV and one of our consultants will be in touch to help. We look forward to hearing from you!
