As well as a reduced teaching timetable, you will regularly take part in meetings with the Department Leader, contribute to departmental and school evaluations, as well as assist in the creation of Department Improvement Plans. You will already be an excellent practitioner with strong knowledge of assessment and data analysis, planning, subject knowledge and behaviour, looking to use your expertise to support other teachers in their role. There will be an opportunity to lead a key aspect of English or to focus on key year groups.

Deputy Leader of English responsibilities:

  • Take the lead in delivering an excellent programme of teaching to students in Key Stage 3 and 4.
  • Assist in producing high-quality learning materials to ensure consistency across the department.
  • Contribute to Department Improvement Plans and Departmental Evaluation Reports.
  • Regularly review data to inform action plans with a view for pupil progress and targeting specific groups.
  • Promote excellent teaching standards through own practice and in supporting other teachers.

The successful Deputy Leader of English will require:

  • A proven track record of success in teaching English.
  • An enthusiastic attitude with excellent communication skills.
  • A passion for motivating students and a record of implementing strategies to improve outcomes.
  • A desire to set high expectations, embrace new challenges and work to support and guide members of your team.
  • A reflective mindset and the ability to create action plans from reviewing data.

This is an excellent opportunity to gain a full-time, permanent role with a school at an exciting time in its development. We’d love to hear from you if you feel you have the experience required and are ready to embrace an exciting new opportunity in leading a thriving department.
