Our client is looking to appoint an SEMH TA/HLTA to work in their Stoke Bishop base. This role is for 5 days per week and is to start as soon as possible (working full time, Mon – Fri).
Previous HLTA experience, working with pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health and /or SEN is highly desirable. An understanding and training in PEC’s, Teach or Team Teach would also be desirable.
In order to be considered for this role we require you meet the following criteria;
- Hold a relevant teaching assistant qualification (e.g. NCFE, CACHE or NVQ Level 1, 2 or 3) (desirable)
- Have eligibility to work in the UK or be a UK resident
- Have previous experience of working with children in the last 2 years
- Excellent knowledge of the full curriculum and assessment frameworks
- Previous KS1, KS2, KS3, KS4 and KS5 experience
- Experience working with pupils with Special Educational Needs or in a SEMH environment
- Two references working with children
- Hold a current DBS that is registered with the update service or be willing to apply for a new one
- Hold a current and valid uk drivers licence (this role will include the collection and dropping off of students to home/school).

Desirable Skills:
- Have knowledge of Social, Emotional and Mental Health difficulties (SEMH). To include Special Educational Needs (SEN).
- An understanding of ways in which children with these difficulties learn differently to their neurotypical peers.
- Be able to use their knowledge and understanding of SEMH/SEN to adapt teaching to meet the diverse needs of our students.
- Have experience in working with children with significant speech and language difficulties and sensory processing differences.
- Have the commitment, skills and motivation to engage learners who present with attention and communication delays.
- Have experience in the use of a range of supports, strategies and programmes specific to supporting students with communication difficulties and sensory needs.
- Be able to demonstrate a commitment to the continuous improvement of provision through imaginative and differentiated lessons and activities.
- Have experience in the enhancement of pupil progress and raising attainment and achievement in all children.
- Have experience of assessing and tracking pupil progress to ensure all learners are making progress.
- Have the emotional and physical resilience necessary when working with young people with a range of complex needs.
- Have the ability to foster good relationships with other staff, children, parents and the wider community
- Be hardworking, organised and proactive in their professional development.
Day to Day Expectations:
- The transport of ‘key students’ to and from the faculty from home/school (This will require ‘business’ insurance to be added to your car insurance premium (Usually free)). The centre is located in Stoke Bishop.
- Collection time will be circa 9.15am – 9.30am and drop off 3.00pm unless specific times are agreed for individual students.
- Communicate with student’s parent/carers
- Staff are expected to adhere to and follow company policies as set out in the staff handbook. This is includes (But not limited to): Safeguarding and child protection, health and safety, risk assessments and communication protocols.
- Staff will be required to run sessions with 1 – 2 students on an individual basis, as well as working as part of a larger team at the centre. These sessions may be with onsite at the facility or appropriate offsite activities.
Other expectations:
- Help to create individualised targets for their key students and create end of term summary reports with the help of the centre manager.
- Attend appropriate meetings for their key students, such as annual reviews, social care reviews and school meetings.
The setting offer students with SEN or SEMH bespoke and individualised alternative provision. They are commissioned directly from schools as well as the local authority, offering academic, vocational and alternative qualifications to our students.

Their new centre in Stoke Bishop is a small ‘nurture centre’, consisting of
- two small classrooms
- a large woodwork workshop
- a large bike workshop
- small outdoor garden space
- A large ‘Family kitchen’
